Fair questions

General information about how the office works, not tax advice for your situation.

Is the first consultation free? Yes. The first call or visit takes about twenty minutes. We look at what you need, then send a written quote.

Do you prepare Maine returns as well as federal? Yes. Every individual return includes both. Returns for other states are quoted separately.

How do I send my documents? Through your private client portal. Uploads are encrypted, and you can photograph paper forms with your phone. You can also drop copies at the office.

Can you help if I have not filed for a few years? Yes. We request the missing records, then work through the years one at a time. Come in sooner rather than later.

I got a letter from the IRS or Maine Revenue Services. What now? Upload or bring it in. We read it with you, explain what it is asking for and what the options are.

Do you only work with people in Portland? No. Many clients meet by video and use the portal from elsewhere in Maine.

When should I book for the spring? As soon as your forms arrive. Appointments fill from February; booking by mid-March leaves time to finish by the April deadline.

What does monthly bookkeeping include? Categorising transactions, reconciling bank and card accounts, and a profit and loss report each month, ready for tax time.

Will the price change once you start? Not without asking you. If we find something the quote did not cover, we tell you before doing the extra work.

Do you have evening appointments? Yes, on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 7 from February to April 15, and by request the rest of the year.
